Low Doc Business Vehicle Loans: A Guide for WA Business Owners

Last Updated on : October 5, 2026

A low-doc loan lets self-employed people and business owners apply with an ABN and a declaration of income instead of full tax returns and financial statements. It suits owners whose paperwork is out of date or whose taxable income does not show what the business really earns. Limits can be tighter than full-doc loans, but rates depend on the lender and your profile, and low doc is often priced the same as full doc for established businesses.

What is a low-doc loan?

A full-doc business loan asks for tax returns and financial statements. A low-doc loan doesn't: the lender relies on your ID and your own declaration of your income, subject to its criteria. Those usually include:

  • An active ABN, often held for a minimum time (commonly 12 to 24 months, depending on the lender).
  • GST registration, in some cases.
  • A good credit history, and often property ownership or a deposit.

If you don't meet a lender's low-doc criteria, there's a middle option called lite doc (also easy doc or mid doc): the lender looks at your BAS or business bank statements instead of tax returns.

What a lender accepts varies, and that is why working with a broker helps. We have 40+ lenders on our panel and they do not all have the same rules.

Who low-doc loans suit

  • Sole traders and tradies who have not lodged recent tax returns.
  • New or fast-growing businesses where last year's return does not reflect today's income.
  • Contractors with lumpy income, including mining and construction contractors in WA.
  • Owners who claim heavy deductions, so taxable income looks low compared with real cash flow.

What you can finance

Low-doc finance is most often used for work vehicles and equipment: utes, vans, trucks, trailers and tools. See our low-doc loans page for detail, and ute finance for the most common purchase. For wider business needs, see business funding.

Pros of a low-doc loan

  • Less paperwork. You do not need full financials.
  • Quicker to assess. Fewer documents mean less for the lender to review, so decisions can come sooner.
  • Keeps cash in the business. Financing a vehicle spreads the cost instead of using working capital.

Cons and trade-offs

  • Criteria to meet. Lenders usually want an established ABN and GST registration and a good credit history.
  • Smaller loan limits and shorter terms. This depends on the lender and the asset.
  • A deposit may be needed. Some lenders want one, others do not.
  • Credit history still counts. Low-doc does not mean no checks. Past defaults narrow your options, but they do not rule you out.

Compare the total cost, not just the repayment.

A word on tax

A business may be able to claim deductions on vehicle costs, depending on how the vehicle is used. The rules depend on your situation, so speak to your accountant. We do not give tax advice.

How to apply

  1. Tell us about your business, your ABN and what you want to buy.
  2. We look at which lenders on our panel suit your situation.
  3. You send in what the lender needs: for low doc, that's your ID and a declaration of your income.
  4. We prepare the application and manage it through to settlement.

Applying through a broker means one conversation instead of many separate applications, and fewer credit enquiries on your file.

Moving from low-doc to full-doc later

If your tax returns are up to date next time, full doc may open up more lenders or higher limits. Keep your returns current, and ask us to review your options when your paperwork improves.

Common questions

Can I get a low-doc loan with a new ABN?

Usually not. Most lenders want about 2 years of ABN and 1 year of GST for low doc, and a few start at 12 months of ABN and 6 months of GST, with lower loan limits. With a newer ABN, lite doc or a start-up option may suit instead, and we check which applies to you.

Do I need a deposit for a low-doc loan?

Not always. Some lenders will lend with no deposit, others ask for one. We will check what applies to you.

Are low-doc loans only for business vehicles?

They are for business purposes, which includes vehicles and equipment used in the business.

Is a low-doc loan more expensive?

Not necessarily. Rates depend on the lender and your profile, and low doc is often priced the same as full doc for established businesses. We compare options across our panel.

Do you lend outside Perth?

Yes. We are Perth-based and lend Australia-wide, including regional WA.
