| Option | What it's for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Chattel mortgage | Buying a vehicle or equipment for the business | You own the asset from day one and the lender holds security over it. GST may be claimable if you're registered. |
| Finance lease | Using equipment without owning it up front | Payments are fixed. Ownership and end-of-term options differ. |
| Term loan | Expansion, fit-outs or a large one-off cost | Fixed repayments over a set term. Often assessed on cash flow, and sometimes secured. |
| Overdraft or line of credit | Ups and downs in cash flow | You pay interest on what you use. Limits are reviewed by the lender. |
| Low doc loan | Established ABN holders without recent tax returns | Your declaration of income replaces full financials and tax returns. Lite doc uses BAS or bank statements instead. |
Illustrative scenario based on common enquiries, not a specific client. Amounts are examples only. A Perth landscaping company with a three-year ABN wanted to buy a mini excavator and a trailer, and needed some working capital for a large job. We split it in two: the machine and trailer went on a chattel mortgage, and a smaller cash flow facility covered wages until the client paid. Keeping them apart gave each its own term and cost.
Chattel mortgages, finance leases, term loans, overdrafts, lines of credit and low doc loans, for assets and cash flow. What's available depends on your business and the lender.
Sometimes. Some lenders accept a new ABN if you've worked in the same trade, often with a deposit. More options open at 6 and 12 months, and the widest choice usually starts around two years.
Not always. Asset finance is secured against the asset itself. Owning property can let you borrow with no deposit, and without property many lenders want a deposit.
Often yes. Low doc relies on your declaration of income instead of full financials or tax returns, and lite doc uses BAS or bank statements. See low doc loans.
Some asset finance decisions come within hours, while larger or more complex cases take days. We can't promise an outcome, but we'll tell you what's needed to avoid delays.

Depending on the structure and whether you're GST-registered, you may be able to. This is general information, not tax advice: check with your accountant.
